Your Skincare Routine to Smooth Fine Lines
Fine lines and wrinkles are some of the most common changes that occur to the skin as we get older. Over time the skin’s collagen levels decrease, lessening its elasticity and causing lines to appear. Choosing the right products can help to preserve your skin over time, while also helping to improve collagen levels!
What are fine lines?
Fine lines are creases that appear on the epidermis layer of the skin. These creases are evident in areas like your eyes and mouth where repetitive facial movements are made.
When our cell-turnover rate slows down, the skin isn’t able to repair as rapidly. Constant muscle contractions (ie. smiling or frowning) are what prompt creases to emerge underneath newly-thinned skin.
Although the natural breakdown of collagen is the main cause of this, there are other contributing factors that quicken this process, including: excessive UV exposure, over exfoliation, stress and smoking.
Here’s your Three Ships routine to tackle fine lines & wrinkles:
1. Cleanser
As the first step in your routine, your cleanser should clean away build-up without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Our Purify Aloe + Amino Acid Cleanser does just that. It contains a unique blend of 10 amino acids that replenish your natural skin’s moisture barrier so it stays intact. Amino acids are essential to building compounds that the skin needs to maintain elasticity.
2. Mask
Clay masks are used to remove dirt and impurities. It’s a natural way of deeply cleansing the skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. Soothe Rosehip Vitamin C Clay Mask is perfect for this. Formulated with Rosehip Oil (a derivative of Vitamin C), it supports the skin’s lipid barrier to smooth the appearance of fine lines.
3. Toner
Tonors nourish and replenish the skin after cleansing while improving the efficiency of other products. Our Awake Rose Hydrosol Toner has a naturally energizing rose scent that refreshes and leaves a quenching effect. Hydrated skin produces less creasing and repairs the lipid layer to fill in lines. Its ability to maintain the skin’s pH balance helps control oils while rejuvenating the skin.
4. Water-based Serums
Water-based serums are lightweight and highly concentrated, making them effective in skin absorption. As most contain Vitamin C derivatives, water-based serums help protect against UV damage and promote collagen formation.
You can find this active ingredient in our Dew Drops Mushroom Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin C Serum! Kakadu Plum contains 100x more Vitamin C than oranges to brighten and plump up the skin while Tremella Mushrooms (a natural source of hyaluronic acid) replenish the skin’s natural moisture.
We also recommend trying our Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retinol Serum. It’s formulated with Bakuchiol (a plant-based retinol alternative) to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Calendula comforts and soothes the skin while boosting skin elasticity. With regular use, you can receive the same skin-improving results as traditional retinol, without the irritation.
Alternate using Dew Drops and Skin Hero by using Dew Drops in the morning, and Skin Hero in the evening. You can also try out Skin Cycling, which gives your skin adequate rest days, while also reaping all the benefits these products have to offer.
5. Moisturizer
As previously noted, keeping the skin hydrated is essential to reducing fine lines and wrinkles - so finding an effective moisturizer is crucial.
Dream Bio-Retinol + Shorea Butter Night Cream’s thick texture seals in moisture - great for night-time usage. Not to mention, the Picão Petro herb makes it a suitable option for introducing Bio-Retinol into your routine as it is a safer alternative that treats aging skin.
6. Oil Serum / Facial Oil
This last step ensures that the rest of your routine is sealed in. Oil-based serums tend to be thick in consistency and promote a slower absorption time. Our Boost 49% Rosehip Oil targets collagen production through its high provitamin A and C formulation. Daily usage will leave the skin feeling soft without a greasy residue. Grapeseed and Vitamin E in this serum mean it’s also great for smoothing fine lines.
